Rodriguez, Zenaido
Zenaido Rodriguez, 83, of Cedar Rapids, died at home on Sunday, Nov. 27, 2011, surrounded by his family. Funeral Mass: 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Christopher Podhajsky. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids, with a rosary at 6 p.m. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his sons, Mario (Elia) Rodriguez of Longview, Texas, Jesse (Debra) Rodriguez and Nicholas Rodriguez (Katie Freymark), both of Cedar Rapids; his daughters, Victoria (Ferdinand) Schulte of Cedar Rapids, Paula (Don) Hartman of Sedalia, Mo., Paulette (Mark) Drew, Alicia Rodriguez, both of Cedar Rapids, and Teresa (Scott) Walton of Anamosa; a sister, Teresa (Jose) Cabrera of El Centro, Calif.; 17 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a longtime amigo, Virgil Facion of Cedar Rapids.
Zenaido was born July 29, 1928, in Leon, Guanajuato Mexico, the son of Jesse and Cruz (Ayala) Rodriguez. On Aug. 10, 1953, he married Eva Arenas in Iowa City. Zenaido worked 40 years for Penick & Ford. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan and enjoyed playing bingo. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
Zenaido was a loving husband, father and grandfather who treasured his time with his family and friends. He will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Eva; and a brother, Juan Rodriguez.
Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association or St. Luke's Hospice.
A special thank you to Dr. Yacoub, St. Luke's Hospital, Continuing Care Hospital and St. Luke's Hospice for the care and compassion provided to Zenaido during these last few weeks and months.
