Mary Jo McKinnon, 77, of Cedar Rapids, died
Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital following a long illness with Alzheimer's disease.
Services: 10 a.m. Monday at St. James United
Methodist Church by Pastor Carol Sundberg. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Teahen
Funeral Home and after 9 a.m. Monday at the church.
Mary Jo is survived by her husband of 52 years, Larry; two daughters, Christy (Mark) McEldoon and Cathy (Todd) Schmitz, both of Cedar Rapids; and four grandsons, Cameron and Christopher McEldoon and Austin and Spencer Schmitz.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister, Erma Koering.
Mary Joan was born Nov. 16, 1936, the daughter of Robert and Hazel (Cook) Byers at her family's Anamosa farm home. After attending high school she married Larry Thomas McKinnon on
Aug. 12, 1961, at Christ Church in
Cedar Rapids. Later, she
continued her education to master her skills at Cedar Rapids Barber College so she could work with her husband at McKinnon Squire Barber Shop.
She loved many different things, including making artwork, garage sales, sewing, camping, boating, flowers and plants, but overall she enjoyed spending time with her family. She raised two beautiful daughters who will both miss their mother greatly.
