McGee, Neil John
Neil John McGee of Cedar Rapids died Thursday, Aug. 11, 2011, at St. Luke's Hospital. Graveside services: 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 15, at the Linwood Mausoleum. Visitation: 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his children, Jerry (Nina Sue) McGee, Mabel Schluessler, Linda Davis, Neil McGee III, Timothy McGee and Scarlet Soliday; stepchildren, Gene (Shirley) Shay, Larry (Marge) Shay, Karen (Kyle) Reynolds and Jim (Debbie) Shay; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Neil was preceded in death by his longtime companion, Adella Shay, who died Jan. 20, 2009; his parents; two brothers; and one sister.
Neil was born March 10, 1919, in Chariton, Iowa. He was a lifelong farmer in the Albia area and a great outdoorsman who loved telling stories. Neil loved his flowers and enjoyed woodworking.
