James L. Bartlett, 78, of Cedar Rapids, died on Tuesday, April 20, 2021, at
St. Luke's Hospital. Private family service with military rites will be held at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories.
A livestream of the funeral service may be accessed on the funeral home website under the obituary for James Bartlett, under the video tab starting at 1 p.m. Saturday. Inurnment at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. There will be a visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Following the continued guidance from health officials, physical distancing must be practiced, which requires a limited number of people allowed into the visitation at one time. The use of face masks or shields is required.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth of Cedar Rapids; two daughters, Karen (Dan) Anderson of Mankato, Minn., and Connie Kalina (Fiancé Mike) of Cedar Rapids; a brother, Paul (Connie) of Missouri; a sister, Luanne (Gayle) Linke of Texas; and a sister-in-law, Carol. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Rachel (Josh), Matthew (Amy), Stephanie (Alex), Tyler (Kate) and Macy; and two great-grandchildren, Bennett and Lily.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Clifford.
Jim was born on April 30, 1942, in Osage, the son of John and Gladys (Furness) Bartlett. He married Elizabeth K. Templeman on Nov. 30, 1963, in Tipton.
Jim was an electrical engineer at Rockwell for over 30 years and held 13 different patents pertaining to his job. He retired in 2008.
He enjoyed fishing, photography, watching the Hawkeyes, Formula One Racing, and especially the time spent with his beloved family. He was an avid reader and proudly served in the U.S. Navy, during the Vietnam War. The ships he served on included the USS Columbus, Benjamin Stoddard and the Adams.
Jim will forever be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and friend whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
