William "Bill" Dlouhy, 95, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, Sept. 14, 2018, at the Solon Nursing Care Center. Celebration of Life services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2018, at Brosh
Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. Burial will follow in Czech National Cemetery, where the Cedar Rapids Fire Department Honor Guard will conduct interment rites. Visitation will be from 4 to
7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 17, 2018, at Brosh Chapel.
William was born Aug. 19, 1923, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Frank and Libbie (Pavlicek) Dlouhy. Bill served in the United States Army during World War II, in the European Theatre. He married Juanita Frances Hovorka on June 11, 1948, at Hus Memorial Presbyterian Church. Bill joined the Cedar Rapids Fire Department in August of 1947, where he served as the district chief from 1973 until his retirement on Dec. 20, 1978. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, hunting, fishing and being outdoors.
Bill is survived by his son, David (Kerry) Dlouhy of Cedar Rapids; and a granddaughter, Amanda Dlouhy of Minneapolis, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita, on April 6, 2011; and his sister, Dorothy (Ernie) Miller.
Memorials may be directed to the Cedar Rapids Fire Department in his name.
