Knipper, Gilbert J.
Gilbert J. Knipper, 87, of New Vienna, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2011, at Shady Rest Care Center, Cascade. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, 2011 at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where a parish Scripture service will be held at 5 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, New Vienna, with burial in the church cemetery. Officiating will be the Rev. John O'Connor.
Gilbert was born on June 2, 1923, in Petersburg, Iowa, the son of August and Rose (Thole) Knipper. He married Viola Von Lehmden on Jan. 29, 1946, in New Vienna, Iowa. Gilbert enjoyed tilling gardens and did lawn care in the New Vienna area. He loved collecting antique John Deere tractors and always participated in the Farmers Day Parade. After retiring from farming, Gib was a hail crop adjuster.
Survivors include his children, Sherry (Wayne) Cusick of New Vienna, and David (Sue) Knipper of Clinton; five grandchildren, Brian Knipper of Earlville, Jeff (Lisa) Knipper of Clinton, Karmen (Leroy) Morris of Manchester, Jamie Cusick of Mediapolis, and Jason Cusick of New Vienna; two stepgrandchildren, Tammy Remrey of Clinton, and Donnie Martz of Danville, Pa.; five great-grandchildren; siblings, Ralph (Vanita) Knipper of Delhi, Walter (Charlotte) Knipper and Kathleen (Laverne) Osterhaus, both of Petersburg, and Rick (Janie) Knipper of Iowa City; and in-laws, Velma Lynch of Manchester, Ruth Kinmonth of Bellevue, Donald (Roseann) Von Lehmden of Dyersville, and Julia Knipper of Kansas City, Kan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Viola in 1994; a son, Danny in 1968; two brothers, Laverne (Alice) and Joseph Knipper; and in-laws, Marlene (Lawrence) Oberbroeckling, Pearl (Edwin) Oberbroeckling, Burnell Lynch and George Kinmonth.
