McNabb, Edward J.
Edward J. McNabb, 70, of 1655 13th St. NW, died Thursday, Sept. 24, 2009, at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, Iowa City, after a short illness. Memorial services: 11 a.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. The family will greet friends from 2to 4 p.m. Sunday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Jackie; two sons, Jeffrey (Judy) of Murrieta, Calif., and Mark (Meloni) of Cedar Rapids; a daughter, Diane McNabb, sister, Jackie Carney, and brother, David H. (Michele) McNabb, all of Cedar Rapids. Ed is also survived by four grandchildren, Janelle, Jared, Jill and Ryan; and a nephew, David E. McNabb.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Donald and Ronald; and his constant companion for 14 years, his pet cat Samantha, who died in June.
Ed was born Oct. 3, 1938, in Iowa City, at the University of Iowa, where he passed away as well. He was the son of Sherman and Frances Newkirk McNabb. He married Jacqueline L. Hynek on July 26, 1958, in Cedar Rapids. Ed was a heavy equipment operator for the city of Cedar Rapids for over 35 years, retiring in 1993. He was an avid golfer who also enjoyed bowling, softball, watching movies and the outdoors. Ed fought heart disease for many, many years and never complained.
He was a generous and wonderful husband, father, brother, grandfather and cherished the time spent with his beloved family.
Memorial donations may be given to the University of Iowa's Cardiac Department in Ed's name.
