Dog abuser should face full force of law

Someone failed miserably in carrying out a background check for Tilly's so-called 'caregiver.” Dennis Greene was to take care of the dog, but instead he nearly killed it. ('Marion man cited for animal abuse after severely injuring rescue dog,” Sept. 18.)
What kind of person does such things?
This man should be held responsible, and the courts should impose the full two-year sentence for animal abuse. Greene also should pay the $7,000 veterinary bills.
I would suggest that he also be kicked by someone bigger than himself so he can learn how the dog felt. Since I know the courts won't let that happen, they should at least impose the law to punish him. If the officers of the court allow the abuser to get by with this horrific act, they should be ashamed. Iowa needs to strengthen its laws regarding animal abuse. Right now.
