Winter farmers markets prepare for season

Summer farmers market season is winding down, with a few markets continuing through Halloween. The last downtown Iowa City market is Oct. 31, while North Liberty and Hiawatha wrapped things up Sunday.
Fans of local produce, baked goods, eggs, honey and crafts still will have winter shopping options.
Here's a roundup of local winter markets:
• Cedar Rapids: NewBo City Market, 1100 Third St. SE, will host weekend vendors through Dec. 20. Nov. 14 and 15 will be a vintage market, Nov. 21 and 22 and Dec. 12 and 13 will be a local foods market, and Nov. 28 and 29 and Dec. 19 and 20 will be an art show and market. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. More information: (319) 200-4050, info@newbocitymarket.com.
• Ely: Ely Public Library, 1595 Dow St., 9 a.m. to noon on the third Saturday of each month, November to April. More information: Theresa Grieder, (319) 848-3074.
• Iowa City: Iowa City will host two Holiday Farmers Markets at the Robert A. Lee Community Recreation Center, 220 S. Gilbert St., from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 14 and Dec. 12. More information: Cassidy Bell, (319) 321-1958, cassidy.theavacentre@gmail.com.
• Johnson County: Johnson County Fairgrounds, 4251 Oak Crest Hill Rd. SE, Iowa City, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 8 and 22, Dec. 13 and 20, Jan. 10 and 24, Feb. 7 and 21, March 6 and 10 and April 10 and 24. More information: Brenda Christner, (319) 325-4049.
