Here are the finalists for this week's KCRG-TV9 Athlete of the Week.
Wes Burnside
Union
Football
Wes helped lead the Knights to their first ever state football title, beating Decorah in the 3A championship 21-14. In the title game he had 142 yards rushing on 24 carries, which included a 33-yard TD.
On the season Wes led the entire Class 3A in rushing with 1,993 yards and 30 TDs. He led the class in both categories, despite missing some time with an injury.
Ben Knake
Lisbon
Football
Ben quarterbacked the Lions to their first ever state title beating West Hancock 14-12 in Class A. He was named MVP of the game as he rushed for 143 yards and a TD, and also threw for 97. Knake posted 5 tackles as well and was named 1st team all-state as a DB.
On the season he passed for 1,084 yards and 12 TDs, while also rushing for 583 yards and 7 TDs. Lisbon finished 14-0.
Nate Streb
Iowa City Regina
Football
Nate led the Regals to their second straight state title beating Spirit Lake 24-20 for the 2A championship. In the title game he had 160 yards passing and a TD. He also rushed for 23 yards.
For the season he threw for 1,635 yards, 20TDs, and just 1 INT. Streb also rushed for 601 yards and 10 TDs. Regina is riding a 28-game win streak. Regina went 14-0 this year as well as last year.
