Reid, Ronald D.
Ronald D. Reid, 76, of Onslow, died Wednesday morning, July 14, 2010, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. A celebration of his life will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 19, at Carson & Son Funeral and Cremation Services in Maquoketa, where visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be at Clay Cemetery, rural Onslow, with full military rites accorded.
Ronald Dwight Reid was born at home in Clay Township, Jones County, Iowa, on Dec. 8, 1933, to Edwin Eugene Reid and Frances M. (Post) Reid. He graduated from Onslow High School in 1952 and attended Iowa State Teachers College. He then became a veteran of the U.S. Army, earning the rank of corporal. He married Carol Alice Stickley on Nov. 27, 1955. She preceded him in death on Oct. 6, 1975. He married Sherri Jo Wells Hicks on July 21, 1977, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.
After receiving an honorable discharge, Ronald worked at Clinton Engines in Maquoketa briefly, and then became a farmer, farming the Clay Township family farm. He spent his entire life on the multigenerational family farm.
Ronald was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Onslow, American Legion Post 259 of Wyoming and the Jones County Cattlemen's Association. He had served as a Clay Township trustee and as secretary/treasurer of the Clay Cemetery Association.
Ronald loved his family first and foremost. He also enjoyed fishing, bowling and watching sports.
Ronald is survived by his wife, Sherri Jo Reid of Onslow; sons, Mark (Mary) Reid of Wyoming, Iowa, Dwight (Ann) Reid of Onslow, Curtis (Lynette) Reid of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Bryon (Heidi) Hicks and Scott Hicks, both of Maquoketa; 17 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Wanda Becker of Maquoketa and Mary (Peter) Doyle of Bella Vista, Ark.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Carol.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be directed to the Clay Cemetery Association.
