Whiting, Doris Jane (Leigh)
Doris Jane (Leigh) Whiting, 91, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, Feb. 21, 2010, at St. Luke's Hospital. At her request there was no visitation and no service. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include her stepson, William J. (Carol) Whiting of Cedar Rapids; her brother-in-law, Duane (Jeanette) Whiting of Ely; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a brother, Robert Leigh.
Doris was born to Herbert and Margaret Leigh at Mount Vernon, Iowa, on Feb. 3, 1919. She graduated from Mount Vernon High School and Cedar Rapids Business College. She married Clyde C. Whiting on Nov. 17, 1946, at Minneapolis, Minn. Clyde died in 1974. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church for over 50 years. Doris retired from Alliant Energy, formerly Iowa Electric Light and Power, in 1983 after 42 years of service. Following retirement she volunteered in the offices at St. Luke's Hospital and Four Oaks for several years.
