Carol May Crump, 91, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Anamosa, died Sunday, Oct. 26, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital. A memorial service celebrating Carol's life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Anamosa, where friends may call after 1:15 p.m. Sunday. Inurnment will be in Barry, Ill. Iowa Cremation is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include her two daughters, Barbara Crawford of Louisville, Ky., and Rebecca (Toby) Joseph of West Des Moines; two sons, Alan (Rebecca) Crump of Rowley and Richard (Susan) Crump of Anamosa; and brother, Richard Kraft of Delaware.
Also surviving are three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and husband, Albert "Bill" in 2011.
Carol May Kraft was born March 8, 1923, in Quincy, Ill., the third child of Jacob and Florence (Langebartel) Kraft. Her mother was taken there by horse drawn wagon from a farm near Payson, Ill. Carol grew up milking cows and shucking corn by hand. She enjoyed attending school and went from a one-room school house to Quincy High School, where she graduated in 1940,
fourth in a class of 345.
She married A.W. "Bill" Crump on Sept. 28, 1947. She had many fond memories growing up including, snow sledding on the hill behind their house and most memorable was the safe return of her brother, Richard, from World War II, after flying 50 missions and receiving three Purple Hearts.
Carol was a 59-year member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and their Women's Circle and was an avid bridge player. The most interesting person she ever met was her husband, Bill.
Memorial donations may be given in her name to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Camp Courageous, St. Luke's Hospice or the donor's charity of choice.
