UPDATE: Fire destroyed the clubhouse at the Lake MacBride Golf Course early this morning, officials said.
Firefighters responded to the blaze at 3891 Pro Rd. around 2:15 a.m. when a neighbor lost power and noticed the flames. Solon First Assistant Fire Chief Bob Siddell said flames were already shooting through the roof when they arrived.
“It was too far involved and gone, so it was not safe to send anyone inside,” Siddell said. “The roof had partially collapsed.”
The fire burned so hot that it melted the fronts on a few golf carts about 30 feet away.
Crews remained on scene at 7:30 a.m., dousing hot spots inside the charred building, which was completely remodeled in 1999.
A cause has not been determined. Siddell said there is no reason to believe it is suspicious. The State Fire Marshal's office will be investigating, he said.
Golf course owner and manager Tracy Hufford, of Solon, said the last employees left around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.
“It was nothing out of the ordinary,” Hufford said. “Just another day.”
Hufford said the golf course will be open today, as scheduled. A man was mowing the fairways as firefighters worked.
“We're going to rebuild,” Hufford said. “We're going to pick ourselves up and do it all again, as soon as possible.”
