Iowa was outscored 32-16 in the fourth quarter Thursday, falling to Indiana 79-74 at Assembly Hall.
The Hawkeyes led by 17 points with 3:38 to play in the third quarter but from that point were outscored 42-20.
'They got to the free throw line a lot more at the end of the game, hit high percentage shots,” Iowa Coach Lisa Bluder said. 'They got a lot of paint points.”
Indiana (14-9, 6-5 Big Ten) outscored Iowa 10-8 in the paint, and the Hoosiers were 8-of-11 from the foul line (Iowa was 3-for-6) in the fourth quarter.
The game was tied 74-74 with 43 seconds left after an Ally Disterhoft drive and layup. But she missed the and-1, and Tyra Buss converted a drive on the other end to give the Hoosiers the lead. Disterhoft drove inside again, but this time was whistled for traveling with 16 seconds left.
Buss hit a pair of free throws to make it a four-point lead with 11 seconds left.
Amanda Cahill had 24 points and eight rebounds for the Hoosiers. Jenn Anderson had 18 points and Buss had 18 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists. Alexis Gassion had nine points, 11 rebounds and eight assists.
It was a tough homecoming for former Indiana Miss Basketball, Whitney Jennings, but the Iowa junior did score a career-high 22 points.
'She had a great game going, then we quit looking for her,” Bluder said. 'And that's too bad for us.”
Ally Disterhoft had 20 points and Megan Gustafson had 12 points and 10 rebounds, her third straight double-double.
Iowa (15-8, 5-6) hosts No. 14 Michigan State at 2 p.m. Sunday.
'We've got to shake this one off,” Bluder said.
