Wink, Virginia
Virginia Wink, 81, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2010, at Mission Regional Medical Center in Mission, Texas. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. today at Indian Creek Cemetery, rural Columbus Junction. Commissioned Lay Pastor Ramona Wink will officiate. There will be no visitation. Local arrangements are by the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services of Columbus Junction.
Virginia Marie Wilkins was born Oct. 19, 1929, in Marshall County, Iowa, the daughter of Ivo L. and Ruby M. (Sawtell) Wilkins. Virginia graduated from Wilson High School in 1947. On Dec. 2, 1950, she was united in marriage to Donald R. Wink at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids. Virginia was employed at Coe College, Iowa National Mutual Insurance Co., and the WMT station, retiring as executive secretary to the president of KGAN-TV on Aug. 1, 1985, after 22 years of service.
Upon retirement, Virginia and Don became avid golfers and traveled extensively in their RV. They visited Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico and many European countries, and in March 2005, they became winter Texans, spending summers in Iowa. Virginia was a member of the Cedar Rapids Ladies Golf Association, Meadow Creek Ladies Golf Association and Friends of Iowa Public Television.
Virginia will be dearly missed by her husband, Don of Cedar Rapids and Mission, Texas; her son, Timothy Wink and his wife, Ramona, of Columbus Junction; her grandson, Andy Wink of Columbus Junction; her brothers, Norman Wilkins of Little Falls, Minn., Marion Wilkins of Iowa Park, Texas and Jerry Wilkins of Elizabethtown, Ky.; and many nieces and nephews.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents.
A memorial has been established at the funeral home in Virginia's name, and online condolences may be left to the Wink family at
