Sanford, Rosemary
Rosemary Sanford, 58, died Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2011, at Jones Regional Medical Center in Anamosa. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 10, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Monticello, with interment in Oakwood Cemetery. Father Keith Birch will officiate at the services. Friends may call from 3 until 7 p.m. Sunday at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, where a parish vigil service will be held at 7 p.m.
Surviving are her husband, Richard; three children, Leigh and Angie of Monticello and Kendalyn of Cedar Rapids; her mother, Maurine Pickerill, Waterloo; and seven siblings: Gloria Dickey, Waterloo; Marie (Walt) Cuvulier, Cedar Falls; Jack (Sue) Pickerill, Waterloo; Jeanette (Martin) Meyer, Eagan, Minn.; James Dilley, Waterloo; Cheryl (William) Smeed, Davenport, and Julia (Douglas) Bean, Scotch Grove.
She was preceded in death by her father, Francis Dilley; stepfather, Calvin Pickerill; her sister, Kathleen M. Timmerman; and a nephew, David J. Meyer.
Rosemary Cecelia Dilley was born Oct. 3, 1953, in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Francis J. and Maurine C. (Merrick) Dilley. Rosemary attended West High School in Waterloo and most recently was a student at Kirkwood Community College. She was employed at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids and then Linn County Child Protective Services for 18 years until her retirement in November 2008. Her love of children was evident in her work as her desire was to protect the little ones who couldn't do so for themselves.
Rosemary loved to play cards with family, was an avid reader and had a love of camping. She was famous for her potato salad, her laughter and playful, mischievous nature.
