Letter: Residents need less advice from government

Home design should be a buyer's decision. Regarding the issue of protruding attached garages, this is not a new idea. Our neighborhood was developed in the 1950s. The houses with attached garages were designed with garage fronts closer to the street than the house fronts. Average lot size is 75' x 135', enough for front and backyards. Too much frontage to qualify as snout houses? The idea of calling a design 'snout house” is offensive to me.
Where is it written that the Cedar Rapids City Council should be concerned about house design? Building codes cover that. We (homeowners, taxpayers, residents) need less advice from government (all levels) about how to live, what to buy, etc.
I wonder how many council members live on a narrow lot with an alley garage. Probably none. Hopefully council members read community letters.
