Harris, William S.
William S. Harris, 81, of Monticello Nursing and Rehab Center in Monticello, formerly of Marion, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2011, after a long illness. Services: 3 p.m. Tuesday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids, where friends may call after 2 p.m. that day. Pastor Al Polito will officiate. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathleen (Robert) Carr of Fort McCoy, Fla., and Peggy Buol of Cedar Rapids; two sons, Thomas (Lois) of Phoenix, Ariz., and William of Marion; three brothers, including Ted (Barbara) Harris of Cincinnati, Ohio; and three sisters. He is also survived by five granddaughters; 12 great-grandchildren; and a brother-in-law and his wife, Robert and Margaret Niles.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
Bill was born Sept. 3, 1929, in Akron, Ohio, the son of Raymond and Florence (Westphal) Harris. He married Patricia A. Niles on Oct. 24, 1946, in Cedar Rapids. She died in 2004. Bill was a manufacturer's rep for the plumbing industry and retired after 30 years of service.
Bill was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Monticello, the VFW and proudly served in the Army during the Korean War. He enjoyed game shows, sports in his younger years and especially time he spent with his beloved family.
Memorial donations may be given to the Monticello Nursing and Rehab or Camp Courageous in Bill's name.
