Donald LeRoy Harris, 64, a resident of the Dubuque Manor Care Center, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died June 20, 2012, following a long illness. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, June 25, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, June 24, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Surviving are his siblings, Arthur (Sharon) Harris of Bloomington, Calif., Dorothy (Micheal) Hampton of Marion, Joyce (Steve) Lucas of Vinton and Becky (Richard Hootman) Harris of Cedar Rapids; as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Harris; and his parents, Thornton and Bernelta Harris.
Donald graduated from Oxford in 1966 and later attended college at the University of Iowa. He had various jobs and was a strong messenger of God through conversation and his Articulate Joy Foundation.
Donald loved his family and made friends wherever he went. He loved music, playing his guitar and enjoyed singing with and to anyone. He also enjoyed fishing, drawing, wood working and leather crafts.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the staffs of Hospice of Dubuque and Manor Care of Dubuque.
Memorial donations in Don's honor may be made to Hospice of Dubuque or to the Wounded Warrior Project.
