At the upcoming August 27 City Council meeting the council is set to hold a public hearing on a request from Cargill to allow a rail yard adjacent to the Prairie Park Fishery. It is important to note a lot of people are not opposed to the rail yard, just the selected location. Cargill is an important part of Cedar Rapids and their success is our city's success as well.
Anyone who has ever went for a run, a walk, a picnic, or a fishing day with the kids to this area knows the damage this will create for the most widely used and loved nature areas in our city. The City of Cedar Rapids website boasts about this location and its being an integral part in the trail and nature corridor in our community. Why would this area even be an option for development?
If you have thoughts or opinions on what this plan will do to our beautiful resource it is important that our city leaders know that. Please either contact your elected officials, email comments to the City Clerk's office at cityclerk@cedar-rapids.org or attend the meeting and let your voice be heard.
