C.R.'s Willems wins Elks title
PANORA - Mitch Willems of Cedar Rapids won the 16-17-year-old division of Iowa Elks State Junior Golf Tournament last weekend at Lake Panorama Golf Course.
Willems, 17, shot a 79 to win a $100 college scholarship.
A member of the Cedar Rapids Jefferson golf team, Willems qualified for the state event at the local tournament sponsored by Cedar Rapids Elks Lodge 251 in June.
Brody Lovell, 10, finished second in the 10-11 division.
Hunters Ridge wins team title
ANKENY - The team from Hunters Ridge Golf Course in Marion won its second straight title in the gross competition of the Iowa Women's State Team Championship at The Briarwood Club.
In the format that counts the best three of four total scores, the team posted a 236 to win by six strokes over Ames Golf & Country Club.
The Hunter's Ridge team members were Julie Bush, Katie Wenthe, Peggy Garrett and Carol Klocke.
Hiawatha's Manning has golden summer
John Manning of Hiawatha competed in four shot put events this summer, winning all four.
Competing in the 75-79 age division, Manning won gold at the Iowa Senior Olympics, Quad Cities Senior Olympics, a masters meet in Pella and the Iowa Games.
