Young, William A.
William A. Young, 93, died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2012, at Colonial Manor of Amana. Funeral Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, Middle Amana Community Church, Middle Amana, Iowa, with Elder Tony Berger officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the South Amana Cemetery. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the church. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be contributed to the Amana Church Society or Essence of Life Hospice.
William is survived by his three sons, Clyde of Amana, David and wife Patricia of Joice, and Laverne of South Amana; two grandsons, Robert Young (Sara) of Cedar Rapids, and Kurtis Young (Alexis) of New York City; and three great-grandchildren, Madison, Kenzie and William.
He is also survived by his sister, Emily Oehl of Amana.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helen in 2009; and a brother, Gerald in 2005.
William Alfred Young was born May 23, 1919, in South Amana, Iowa, the son of George and Helene Bopp Young. He graduated from the Amana High School in 1938 and went to work for the Amana Farms. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theatre. William married Helen Dietrich on May 3, 1947, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was employed by Homestead Implement as a mechanic in the 1950s. In 1959, he went to work for Amana Refrigeration as a press operator, retiring from there in 1986. William was a member of the Amana Church Society, the Marengo American Legion and the Amana Young Men's Bureau.
