Keep the Abbe Center open
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Aug. 7, 2013 1:03 pm
My son is a resident at the Abbe Center in Marion. A year ago, he had a psychotic break and through four hospitalizations in six months we were unable to stabilize him. His last placement was at the state mental hospital where they finally got him on track and then moved him to the Abbe Center.
The staff there monitors him very closely and my son has finally returned to his pre-psychosis demeanor. I attribute this almost entirely to the diligence and care of the staff at the Abbe Center. Closing this facility will do a tremendous disservice to both my son and all the other residents there who truly require this level of care.
Contact the governor and implore him to keep Abbe Center open and provide funding.
