Achenbach, David Jay
David Jay Achenbach, 55, formerly of Cedar Rapids, passed away Sunday, Dec. 18, 2011, at Crestridge Care Nursing Home, Maquoketa, after a courageous battle with dementia. A private entombment will take place in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
David loved his children, hunting, fishing, boating, old cars, John Wayne and singing to old songs. He was very artistic and loved drawing, painting, writing stories and building bird houses.
Survivors include his mother, Betty Achenbach; son, David W. Achenbach; and daughter, Shanell Achenbach, all of Cedar Rapids; sister, Barb (Neil) Rosdail of Florida; twin sister, Dawn Lambert (Steve Hauschild) of Cedar Rapids; three granddaughters, Kylie, Arieonna and Tina; one grandson, Aiden; and nephews, Michael and Matthew Lambert.
He was preceded in death by his fathers.
David was born David J. Frame on Jan. 21, 1956, in Cedar Rapids. He was adopted by his new dad, Clarence B. Achenbach, when his mother remarried. He graduated from Jefferson High School and took many classes at Kirkwood. When David was 17 he worked in a bakery, then went on to work at Amana Refrigeration, General Mill and the City of Cedar Rapids. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
