Corey was born Sept. 29, 1965, in Iowa City, the son of Kenneth Hagen and Jean Hall Hagen. He was a 1984 graduate of City High School, where he played football, baseball and golf. Corey attended AIB in Des Moines.
Corey was a true entrepreneur. He owned and operated Unicom, which was the Nextel cellphone service in Iowa City. He then franchised Cinnamonster, Quizno's and Steak Escape, all of which were located at Coral Ridge Mall.
He was an avid hunter and taxidermist. Corey liked to fish for trophy muskie and walleye and hunt morel mushrooms.
Corey's friends loved him and cherished the time they spent with him. He was always an optimist and had a way of lifting people's spirits, bringing a smile to those around him. We appreciated his gift as a storyteller. It was a common occurrence for him to fill the room with laughter. Everyone that knew him will miss him greatly. Corey is and always will be our friend. Corey came from a unique high school class which was very close. The City High Class of 1984 will never forget him.
Survivors include his parents, Jean Hagen of Gold Canyon, Ariz., and Ken Hagen (Sharon Mathieu) of Iowa City; three siblings, Chris (Cathy) of Iowa City, Craig (Robin) of Gilbert, Ariz., and Cathy (Doug) Wedhe of Corte Madera, Calif.; his stepson, Hayden; nieces and nephews, Alex, Nick and Sarah Hagen, Jordan and Brody Hagen, Riley and Hagen Wedhe; many aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and many friends. He will be greatly missed.
