Irene M. Guy of Westchester, Ill., formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, March 1, 2014, at Westlake Hospital in Melrose Park, Ill., after a short illness. Funeral services will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 8, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, officiated by Cedar Memorial staff-certified Celebrant Julie Freese. The family will greet friends at the funeral home one hour before the service. Burial will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in the Garden of Eternal Love.
Memorial donations in Irene's name may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association.

She is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Oliver of Westchester, Ill.; three grandchildren, Daniel Keith (Janeen) Hayes, Marshun Guy and Micah Guy; and three great-grandchildren, Jackson Mateo Hayes, Martel Daniel Guy-Leigh and Demetrius Miles Guy-Leigh.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers and four sisters; her husband, Claude Guy; and her son, Daniel Theodore Guy.
Irene was born to Oliver and Oma (Holloway) Shepherd in Streator, Ill. She was united in marriage to Claude Guy on June 7, 1936, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Irene was a proud homemaker. She lived in Cedar Rapids until the floods of 2008, when she moved to the Chicago area with her daughter.
She attended Living Word Christian Center in Forest Park, Ill. She was a former member of Order of the Eastern Star – Silver Leaf Chapter and was a Past Worthy Matron. She was also a longtime member of the Westdale Iowa Bowling Club.
Irene enjoyed bowling and flower gardening. She especially loved to plant flowers around the outside of her home.
