Francik, Valeda L.
Valeda L. Francik, 83, of 860 Edward Ct. SE, died Thursday, March 10, 2011, at St. Luke's Hospital after a short illness. Services: 10 a.m. Monday at Bethany Lutheran Church. The Rev. Joseph Polzin will officiate. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. The casket will be closed at the church on Monday.
Survivors include a daughter, Cindy (Mike) Goerdt of Cedar Rapids; two sons, the Rev. Douglas (Earlene) of Escondido, Calif., and Scott (Cheri) of Anamosa; a brother, Darrel (Donna) Bogner of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Eloise Miller of Apache Junction, Ariz.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Verle; and sister, Ilene Rueber.
Valeda was born Sept. 7, 1927, in Lockridge, the daughter of Louis and Clara (Achenbach) Bogner. She married Verle M. Francik on Feb. 10, 1957, in Galesburg, Ill. He died in 1996. Valeda was a bookkeeper for many years and most recently was owner and operator of Iowa Air Freight for several years.
She was a faithful member of Bethany Lutheran Church. She served 45 plus years in the work of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League. She served in various offices at the local, zone, and district level, including president of Iowa District East. Over the years she realized that her involvement with that group had been a tremendous faith builder. She was exposed to wonderful Bible studies, tremendous speakers and wonderful friendships. Valeda's faith in her Savior was a sustaining influence in her life.
