UNI in CIT. Translation: Northern Iowa men's basketball team to play in CollegeInsider.com Tournament

We knew Northern Iowa's men's basketball season would continue, we just didn't know if it would be in the College Basketball Invitational or CollegeInsider.com Tournament.

It's the latter, or CIT, for short.

UNI will play a first-round game in Cedar Falls on March 15 against an opponent to be determined. So it's TBA vs. UNI in the CIT.

The CIT has strictly been a mid-majors event in its first two seasons. No one from a BCS conference has participated.  It is a 16-team, single-elimination tourney played exclusively at campus sites.

Last year's champion was Missouri State of the Missouri Valley Conference. The Bears played all four games at home. They beat Valley rival Creighton in the semis, then conquered Pacific in the title game.

The 2009 title game was also held at a Valley site, but Bradley lost to Old Dominion. Drake played in the 2009 CIT.
