Shepard, Howard A.
Howard A. Shepard, 88, of 715 25th St. SE, Cedar Rapids, died Monday, May 16, 2011 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha, after a long illness. Services at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Noelridge Christian Church. Pastor James Cotten will officiate. Burial at 2:30 p.m. at the Fontana Cemetery, Hazleton. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife, Helen; a nephew, Doug; niece, Heather; and special friends, Robin and Mike Bridge of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Howard was born on Oct. 25, 1922, in Fayette County, the son of Sam and Elsie Wilbur Shepard. He married Helen L. Magnuson on Sept. 9, 1945, in Hazleton. Howard worked at Cargill for over 25 years, and later for ten years he was in maintenance for the Cedar Rapids Community School System, until his retirement.
Howard was a faithful member of the Noelridge Christian Church. He enjoyed fishing, NASCAR, all sports especially the Hawkeyes and traveling all over the United States with Helen.
Memorial donations may be given to Noelridge Christian Church or Camp Courageous in Howard's name.
