Howard Wayne Novotny, 81, of Fairfax, died Sunday, Dec. 6, 2015, at Living Center West. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. Burial will follow in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Brosh Chapel.
Howard was born Feb. 27, 1934, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Adolph and Mabel (Swenka) Novotny. He graduated from Shueyville High School in 1952. Howard proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. Howard was united in marriage to Elaine Konigsmark on May 31, 1959, at First Presbyterian Church, near Ely.
He worked at Herman M. Brown for over 30 years, until his retirement in 1999. Howard enjoyed gardening, traveling with family and friends, annual fishing trips to northern Wisconsin and spending time with his family. A prized hobby for Howard was collecting and restoring antique cars. He was a member of the Model A Restorers Club and the Antique Automobile Club of America, where he served as past president for the local region.
Howard is survived by his wife of over 56 years, Elaine; his daughter, Kim Novotny of Cedar Rapids; his brother, Warren (Kathy) Novotny of Cedar Rapids; and a niece, Heidi (Bart) Stiffler and their children, Brady and Brooke.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
