My Heisman ballot: 1. Griffin, 2. Luck, 3. Mathieu
Mike Hlas Dec. 5, 2011 11:34 am
I'm on board with RG3.
Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III is atop my Heisman Trophy ballot, which is due this afternoon.
Thirty-six TD passes, six interceptions. The nation's leader in pass efficiency. Nine rushing TDs and 644 rushing yards (800+ if you take away sacks). 3,998 passing yards for a 9-3 team.
Not that it matters, but Griffin has an undergraduate degree in political science (he minored in corporate communicatons) at the private school, and had a GPA of 3.69.
The fact is, he was the most-dynamic player in the nation this year.
2. Andrew Luck, Stanford
It's impossible to dismiss his two-year record. He had 35 TD passes to 9 picks, yadda, yadda. But he's a winner, pure and simple. Choosing between Luck and Griffin is why I've waited longer than I ever have to turn in my vote. Either will be a fine and deserving winner.
3. Tyrann Mathieu, LSU
He plays a great cornerback. He forced six fumbles, and returned two for touchdowns. He is an amazing punt-returner, with two returns for touchdowns and an average of 16.1 yards.
