To the editor:
My family and I have used the Cedar Rapids Public Library for 50 years and have found it so useful and accommodating, no matter what 'stage” in life we are talking about.
I took our children to Story Time as preschoolers. They would check out books to bring home for us to read to them, picture books, and, eventually, material to read on their own. The Summer Reading Program was always a hit and our children loved going to get various books, check off how many they had read, and work toward rewards. As they got older, they used the library to do research for school projects.
Our young grandchildren love visiting the Children's Department. The youngest has figured out that he can use the large computer to play games with youngsters he makes friends with, and this doesn't 'count” for his daily allotted 'screen time”.
I belong to a Book Club that uses the book club kits so we can all have access to the same book. Recently, I have started to lead a book discussion group at the Methwick Community and find that the library has provided monthly drop-off service of these club book kits to those who cannot easily access the library. This has been in service since 2004. They provide both large print books and Books on Tape so all can easily enjoy reading and discussing.
These are all services that are in peril unless we all vote for the levy on Nov. 3.
