Reversal of Back-In Angle Parking Moved to June 19

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE___________________________________ Reversal of Back-In Angle Parking Moved to June 19 June 16, 2011-Cedar Rapids, IA – The project to convert back-in angle parking to pull-in angle parking along 1st Street SE from 1st Avenue to 7th Avenue SE has been moved to Sunday, June 19. The City's Traffic Engineering and Public Works Departments, who are partnering on the project, decided that rescheduling the conversion for Sunday would be less disruptive to parking patrons. The conversion was originally scheduled to take place this evening.

The conversion from back-in to pull-in angle parking comes in response to feedback received from downtown business owners, employees and visitors. Back-in angle parking was first implemented in July 2008 to safely accommodate the high number of construction vehicles in the downtown area post-flood and to provide additional on-street parking capacity. Back-in angle parking will remain on the 2nd and 3rd Avenue bridges.

Cedar Rapids Parking staff will be on site the morning of Monday, June 20 to assist parkers with questions or in need of additional assistance.
