Injured Coralville pride
Mar. 12, 2010 3:25 pm
Poor Coralville residents were slapped in the face this week by none other than the U.S. Census Bureau.
Some Coralvillians who got their Census forms, but noticed their addresses were listed as being in Iowa City. Oops.
Congressman Dave Loebsack stepped up Friday and demanded an apology for the slighted town:
“The citizens of Coralville have their own community, history, and pride and it is essential that this alarming omission of their identity be rectified and an apology issued. Coralville is its own town, and should not be lumped into a neighboring community,” said Loebsack. “An accurate count is vital to help ensure that our communities get adequate funding for schools, roads, and hospitals," he wrote in a statement.
He demanded that Coralville residents receive an apology and new forms, this time with the correct address.
A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for Monday for the $11.2 million performing arts center in downtown Coralville.
