Reversal of Back-In Angle Parking Scheduled for June 16

Reversal of Back-In Angle Parking Scheduled for June 16 June 9, 2011-Cedar Rapids, IA – The Cedar Rapids Downtown District is pleased to announce that the back-in angle parking along 1st Street SE from 1st Avenue to 7th Avenue SE will be converted to pull-in angle parking. The City of Cedar Rapids' Traffic Engineering Department will design the conversion and weather permitting, the project will be completed by Friday, June 17.

The conversion from back-in to pull-in angle parking comes in response to feedback received from downtown business owners, employees and visitors. Back-in angle parking was first implemented in July 2008 to safely accommodate the high number of construction vehicles in the downtown area post-flood and to provide additional on-street parking capacity. Back-in angle parking will remain on the 2nd and 3rd Avenue bridges.

The work will be performed in the overnight hours in an effort to minimize any disruption to downtown parking patrons. Cedar Rapids Parking staff will be on site the morning of Friday, June 17 to assist parkers with questions or in need of additional assistance.
