Downtown Parking Ramps Reveive Technology Facelift

CONTACT: Cedar Rapids Parking www.crparking.org 319-365-PARK [cid:image001.jpg@01CC21C8.E4AFE410] FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE___________________________________ Downtown Parking Ramps Receive Technology Facelift June 3, 2011-Cedar Rapids, IA – Beginning Monday, June 6th, old parking access control equipment including gate arms and ticket dispensers will be removed from the Five Seasons parking ramp. The old equipment will be replaced with updated models and the Five Seasons installation is the last of a larger project to replace outdated technology in all the municipally-owned downtown parking ramps, including the 3rd Avenue, 4th Avenue and Ground Transportation facilities. This updated parking technology will provide Cedar Rapids Parking staff with real time information on how each facility is being used, leading to more efficient management of existing parking resources. Another benefit of the new technology is increased public safety, as those who utilize the facilities will have authorized access cards and will be monitored by closed circuit cameras as they enter and exit the facilities. Removal and installation of equipment in the Five Seasons parking ramp is estimated to take two to three weeks. During this time, monthly parkers are asked to leave the access card on the dash of their vehicle, number side up for ease of identification. Daily visitor parking will continue to be available.
