Nichols, Gertrude
Gertrude Nichols, 94, died June 9, 2010, at the Vinton Lutheran Home in Vinton following a sudden illness. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, June 12, at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, with Father David Ambrosy officiating. To honor her request there will be no other public services. Phillips Funeral Home in Vinton is in charge of arrangements.
Gertrude was born Aug. 15, 1915, in Urbana, to Frank and Katherine (May) Kramer. On Jan. 20, 1938, she married Arthur J. Nichols in Urbana. He preceded her in death in 1999 after 61 years of marriage.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews from the Kramer family in the Urbana and surrounding area.
Gertrude was a devoted wife, and sweet aunt and great-aunt to many.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded by six sisters and three brothers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the fund of choice.
