Gertrude A. Weaver, 97, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, May 1, 2014, at Winslow House Care Center in Marion after a brief illness. Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial: Cedar
Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 6 p.m. Monday.
Survivors include her son, Ken of Cedar Rapids; and a nephew, Dr. Richard (Kathy) Handy of Ames.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two sisters and a brother.
Gertrude was born Aug. 22, 1916, in Carroll, the daughter of Louis and Louisa Shoemaker. She moved to Cedar Rapids in 1938. Gertrude graduated from Coe College, with a degree in music, and while in school, she became a concert pianist. She also taught music at Johnson School for eight years.
Gertrude married Kenneth B. Weaver on June 28, 1947, in Cedar Rapids. Kenneth passed away in 1998. She was a homemaker and an 80-year member of the PEO.
Gertrude's memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
