Gertrude C. (Abernathy) Christy Wasendorf, 98, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, Jan. 15, 2016. As per her wishes, there will be no services. Arrangements are with Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her son, Gary Wasendorf of Cedar Rapids.
Gertrude was born the eldest daughter of James and Gertrude Abernathy on Oct. 18, 1917, in Platte, S.D. As a small child, the family returned to a farm in Kirkville, Iowa. After her marriage in 1939, she resided on a farm near Ottumwa and moved to Cedar Rapids in the 1950s. Gertrude worked in sales at F.W. Woolworth in Ottumwa and then as personnel supervisor for the Town & Country shopping center in Cedar Rapids.
She will be missed by her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles C. Henry; and second husband, Leo L.Wasendorf.
