Topsoil decision a loss for Iowa

To the editor:
A black day for Iowa, the Mississippi River, Gulf of Mexico and environment by loosening the topsoil law for replacement following construction.
Of course this reversal is a boon for developers who pressured for the change. The bottom line is profit rather than intelligent thought of conservation and not looking at planning for the future.
By deforestation and plowing up natural prairie we have already lost over a foot of topsoil through the years.
It is unconscionable that Iowa's elected officials would desecrate their own land in such a way even though some have farms and know what erosion is - irreversible.
Sen. Pam Jochum from Dubuque knows firsthand that not replacing dirt will cause flash flooding, muddy streets, more soil particulates in rivers and lakes.
The dollar still is the strongest way to change a mind in the wrong direction that is only beneficial for the elite entrepreneurs.
