Jordan Ashton scored a game-high 29 points as Mount Pleasant opened the season with a nonconference home viSctory last night, edging C.R. Xavier 68-65 in overtime.
Mack Mattke led Xavier with 15 points and Kevin Hosch posted a 13-point, 10-rebound double-double.
The Saints (1-0) forced the extra session on a jumper by Ben McDermott with five second left in regulation and had a chance to send the game to another overime, but a desperation 3-pointer at the final buzzer fell short.
C.R. JEFFERSON 72, CLINTON 31 - Taylor Olson registered game-highs with 23 points, 8 assists and 7 rebounds as the J-Hawks opened the season with a road victory last night.
Alec Saunders scored 13 and Ky Kramer added 11 for Jefferson (1-0).
IOWA CITY HIGH 41, DES MOINES LINCOLN 38 - The Little Hawks started the fourth with an eight-point deficit at Des Moines and held Lincoln to only two points in the quarter for the win. Lonnie Chester sank two free throws with 9.9 seconds remaining in the game to put City High (1-0) up for good. Jerel Moore had nine points and nine rebounds, Ronald Thompson scored 8 and Tony Perry and Cortez Garfield added 7 apiece.
SOLON 41, MARION 38 - Turner Wentzien led all scorers with 18 points as Solon rallied from a 10-point deficit at Marion.
The Spartans trailed, 36-26, entering the fourth quarter.
Brenden Landuyt scored 13, including three 3-pointers, and Isaac Frazier chipped in with eight in the season opener for Marion (0-1).
