Big haul for Tri-Rivers Conference

DES MOINES -- The Tri-Rivers Conference had plenty of hardware to tote back home from the Iowa High School Athletic Association at Wells Fargo Arena.
Fifteen TRC wrestlers earned medals, including 14 in the Class 1A tournament, this week. Alburnett, Maquoketa Valley and North Linn all had four medalists.
The Pirates were in place to earn their third straight team finish. Freshman Hunter Washburn (106) reached the finals, and Tyler Shulista reached his third finals match, needing a win at 126 for his third state title. Dylan Windfield (160) placed fifth at 160 and Grant Henderson (145) was sixth for Alburnett.
North Linn advanced two into the finals as well with 138-pounder Logan Mulnix going for a second state title. Ben Schott made the finals at 170. Zach Welter was fourth at 113 and John Pint was eighth at 152 for the Lynx.
Maquoketa Valley had its most successful state tournament in at least 35 years. The Wildcats had four medalists, including freshman Ryan Parmely, who placed fourth at 195. Adam Steger (220) and Troy Hunt (182) were sixth and Carter Funke was seventh.
Other Tri-Rivers placewinners include Ed-Co's Sawyer Amline, who was seventh at 113, East Buchanan's Colton Stoddard, who was seventh at 152, and Monticello's Landon Felton, who finished fourth at 113 in 2A.
West Branch was perfect through the semifinals advance all three of its qualifiers to the finals. Jake Slocum (145), Cade Jones (195) and 220-pounder Derrick Miller all reached the championship matches.
Lisbon had three medalists and two finalists. Heavyweight Tyler Smith placed third, joining finalists Kolbi Kohl (126) and Tait Simpson (152) on the awards stand.
Highland, Tri-County/Montezuma, Valley Community, Midland and South Winneshiek.
South Winn's Nick Schmelzer reached the finals at 220, while the Warriors' Nathan Brincks was fourth at 182.
Highland's Jess Hahn finished third at 132. The Huskies' Travis Cole placed fifth at 113.
Valley Community's Lincoln Monroe and Joe Koehn sent Coach LeVirgil Monroe into his post-coaching life with two top-seven finishes. Lincoln Monroe, the coach's son, earned his second medal, placing sixth at 120. Koehn, a finalist last year, was seventh.
Midland's Kyle Pegorick was sixth at 126 and Ryan Leonard (182) placed seventh.
Tri-County/Montezuma's Tyler Foubert placed third ay 138, and Conner Johnston earned eighth place at 195.
English Valley's Andrew De Regnier placed fourth at 170, while Sigourney-Keota's Steve Clubb was fourth at 220. BGM's Collin Kolars was fifth at 120, avenging a first-round loss to Monroe for fifth. Jesup's Ryan Hall earned his third medal, getting fifth at 138. He finished a spot ahead Belle Plaine's Lance Hirschberger.
North Cedar's Tanner Tenley and Iowa Valley's Logan Loftus placed eighth at 170 and 138, respectively.
