Howard Robert Bruner, 78, of Cedar Rapids, passed Monday, April 19, 2021, at UnityPoint St. Luke's Hospital. Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 23, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Ted Groth. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids. Burial with military honors: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Michelle; sons, Dan (Tammy) Prohaska, Steve (Erin) Bruner, Jim Bruner and Bryan (Alyssa) Bruner; and grandchildren, Damien, Alyssa, Lexi, Dakota, Dylan, Lauren, Emma and Ethan.
Howard was born Jan. 8, 1943, in Cedar Rapids, the son of James and Betty (Anderson) Bruner. He graduated from Jefferson High School, then joined the U.S. Navy, where he served for four years, including Vietnam. After his service, Howard began a 40-year career as an ironworker and foreman. He was a proud member of Ironworkers Local 89, VFW and American Legion.
On Nov. 17, 1990, he married Michelle Corniea. Howard will be remembered for his gentle kindness and dedication to his family. He loved to spend time in his garage working on projects and helping others. Howard enjoyed perfecting his front lawn, vegetable gardening and loving his animals. His perfect days were spent fishing and watching the Chicago Cubs. Howard's presence will be forever missed by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jim; and an infant brother.
