Larry Howard Sorgenfrey, 62, of Tipton, passed away Thursday, Sept. 7, 2017, at Mercy Hospice in Iowa City.
Larry was born in Davenport on Jan. 9, 1955, a son of Howard and Patty I. (Tumey) Sorgenfrey. Larry graduated from Wilton High School in 1973. He attended Iowa State University and later received his bachelor's degree from Marycrest College in Davenport.
In his early years, he was active in the 4-H Wilton Hustlers and Wilton Presbyterian Church.
Larry married JoDee L. Hamann on Oct. 8, 1976. He worked for Raymond Corp. in Muscatine.
Larry was an avid reader and enjoyed Iowa Hawkeye athletics, antique restoration and tinkering in his garage and yard. He enjoyed visiting and never met a stranger. Above all, he loved his children and grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Sunday, Sept. 10, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Bentley Funeral Home in Wilton. A Celebration of Life will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 11, at the funeral home. Private family interment will take place at Durant Cemetery.
Larry is survived and lovingly remembered by his children, Christopher (Leah) Sorgenfrey of Tipton, Kyle Sorgenfrey (Emily Shannon) of Stinnett, Texas, Anna (Aaron) Larmore of Iowa City and Elyse Sorgenfrey of Denver, Colo.; his grandchildren, Sophia, Kolby, Carver, Lola, Liam, Marlow and Leo; his mother, Patty Sorgenfrey of Lisbon; his sisters, Barb (Bruce) Jipp of Wilton and Melody (Todd) Lineburg of Mount Vernon; and his brothers, Murray (LuAnne) Sorgenfrey of Tipton, Terry (Gaby) Sorgenfrey of Chatham, Ill., and Jerry (Kim) Sorgenfrey of Wyoming, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his father.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Larry Sorgenfrey Memorial Fund.
