Kelley, Robert 'Bob' E.
Robert “Bob” E. Kelley, 64, of Iowa City, died Monday, July 12, 2010, at the Mercy Hospice.
Funeral services to celebrate Bob's life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City, with the Rev. Jennifer Yoder Stout officiating. The family request casual Hawkeye attire be worn at Bob's service. Burial, with military honors, will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. A reception at the Eagles Lodge will follow the committal service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice or the Salvation Army.
Bob was born June 30, 1946, in Iowa City, the son of Leslie and Viola Chelf Kelley. He served in the U.S. Army. On Nov. 20, 1973, Bob married Gloria Funk in Rock Island, Ill.
Bob was employed by the Iowa City Community School District for 35 years, retiring in 2009. He was a generous and caring man who helped others and opened his heart and home to family and friends. Bob liked to fish and cook, and was known as “the Mayor of Broadway Street.” Bob was a volunteer at the Salvation Army.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Gloria; and children, Monica Kelley and Eric Kelley, both of Iowa City, and Chris (Misty) Kelley of Fayetteville, Ark.; and his brothers, Travis and Scott; two brothers, Merle (Judy) Kelley of Cedar Rapids, and Willard Odle of Yakima, Wash.; his beloved pets, Maggie and Jack; and numerous extended family and friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; three siblings, Ed Kelley, Donna Miller and Linda Edwards; and his in-laws, John and Ruth Funk.
