Halverson, James Ronald
James Ronald Halverson, 74, of rural Elkader, died Sunday, April 21, 2013, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident.
Jim was born Aug. 30, 1938, in rural Elkader, Iowa, to Roy G. and Alvina (Ruroden) Halverson. Jim was baptized on Nov. 3, 1938, at the Lutheran Parsonage in St. Olaf and was later confirmed in 1953 at Highland Lutheran Church, rural Elkader.
Jim graduated from Elkader High School with the class of 1956. Following high school, he served his country honorably in the United States Army from February 1962 to February 1964 as a military police officer. Jim spent the rest of his life farming the family farm until his passing.
He enjoyed hunting deer, turkey and mushrooms, fishing and gardening. He also loved spending time with his family and friends.
He will be greatly missed by the many people who knew him.
Survivors include his siblings, Royale Daniels, Maynard, Lynn (Vernon) Ames, Marion, Jaynee (Phil) Ruckdashel, Elgin, Gary (Carolyn) Halverson, Tahlequah, Okla., and Larry (Kristin) Halverson, Bastrop, Texas; and his many nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Alvina Halverson; and one nephew, Gary James Halverson.
Visitation will be Thursday from 3 to 8 p.m. at Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Elgin. Visitation also will be held one hour before services at the church on Friday. Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, April 26, at Highland Lutheran Church, rural Elkader, with the Rev. Jerome Godson officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Lutheran Cemetery, rural Elkader, with military honors.
