Donna J. Beggs, 87, of Brighton, Mich., formerly of Vinton, died Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2017, following an extended illness.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, at Wesley United Methodist Church in Vinton, with the Rev. Dr. Sue Thomas officiating. Friends may register from 1 p.m. until service time. Private committal services will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton. Phillips Funeral Home, Vinton, is in charge of arrangements.
Donna was born July 1, 1929, in Lebanon, Iowa, to Earl and Esther (Bonar) Johnston. On May 14, 1950, she was united in marriage to Francis J. Beggs at the Methodist Chapel in Fairfield. The couple eventually settled in Vinton and owned and operated Benton County Title Co. for more than 30 years.
They spent their retirement at Cedarview in Vinton with winters in Arizona before moving to Meth-Wick Manor in Cedar Rapids.
Francis preceded his wife in death on June 26, 2011. In 2016, Donna moved to Brighton, Mich., to be near her son.
While living in Vinton, Donna was an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church and Vinton Country Club.
An accomplished artist, Donna enjoyed painting florals, portraits and outdoor scenes from nature. She was a collector of antiques, especially china and glassware, and enjoyed music and singing. Donna was a great baker, known for her homemade rolls, tea rings and pies.
Most importantly, Donna enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Donna is survived by her son, Bradley, and wife, Allison, of New Hudson, Mich.; her son-in-law, Charles (Chuck) Juhl of Sioux Falls, S.D.; her grandchildren, Elizabeth (Jason) Davis of Sioux Falls and Michelle (Daniel) McCann of Vinton; a brother, Paul Johnston of Lebanon; and great-grandchildren, Ethan Davis and his newborn twin brothers, Aidan and Declan.
In addition to her parents and husband, Donna was preceded in death by her daughter, Theresa Ann Juhl; an infant son, John Matthew Beggs; and her sister, Esther Johnston.
A memorial fund has been established for the Lions Club Leader Dogs for the Blind.
