Yemba, Elario Ogido Ayiaga
Elario Ogido Ayiaga Yemba, 69, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday morning, Aug. 8, 2012, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Matthew's Catholic Church, with the Rev. David Beckman officiating. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call after 10 a.m. Friday at Papich-Kuba Funeral Home East, 1228 Second St. SE, and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the church. A vigil service begins at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Elario is survived by his wife, Bendata Goliba Olivona; two sons and a daughter, including Matthew Jengwa, Cedar Rapids; and six grandchildren.
Elario was born May 5, 1943, in Pageri, Sudan, and came to Cedar Rapids from Khartoum with his wife in 2007. He was a sergeant in the Sudanese military. Elario was a member of St. Matthew's Catholic Church.
