The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders took six players in Tuesday's 2011 United States Hockey League Futures Draft, including one with a familiar name.
Forward Michael Babcock was selected by the Riders in the fifth round and 68th overall pick. He is the son of Detroit Red Wings head coach Mike Babcock, who led Canada to a gold medal at last year's Winter Olympics.
The younger Babcock is a sophomore at Detroit Catholic Central High
School. The Futures Draft consists of players with 1995 birthdates.
The RoughRiders selected Andrew Oglevie with their first pick (14th overall). He is a winger from Fullerton, Calif. and Culver Academy in Indiana.
In the second round, Cedar Rapids selected forward Levi Erkkila of Calumet (Mich.) High School and defenseman Alexander Wilkinson of Raleigh, N.C. and the Carolina Junior Hurricanes program.
Quebec winger Anthony Deluca went in the fourth round. He is a Vermont commitment.
Center Brady Crabtree of the St. Louis Junior Blues was Cedar Rapids' final Futures Draft selection. The RoughRiders have six St. Louis residents on their team this season.
First-overall pick Taylor Cammarata (to Waterloo) scored 126 points in 48 games this season for the Shattuck St. Mary's U16 team. Another pick of note was Max Domi in the second round to the Indiana Ice.
The son of former NHL enforcer Tie Domi is expected to choose between the USHL and the major junior Ontario Hockey League.
